The trend towards ever larger televisions continues unabated. Manufacturers are outbidding each other with new oversized models, and prices for such 80-inch and larger flat-panel TVs are also becoming more affordable. But as great and overwhelming as the large screen diagonal may be when watching movies or series, the bigger the big black hole in your living room when the TV is not on. Here we present 5 solutions how to hide their, at least a little, TV.

Hide TV Solution 1: TV as a digital painting

Instead of hiding the screen, this variant attempts to use the screen creatively even when the TV is switched off. Various manufacturers offer models with so-called art modes, which means the TV can display high-resolution images of paintings or photos while not actively watching TV. Each manufacturer uses its own name like Art, Ambient or Gallery Mode for these functions, the result is somewhat the same for all of them.

The display of the artwork looks deceptively real, also thanks to the extremely matte and non-reflective screens used in these special models.

These special TV models, including Samsung’s best-known model appropriately named “The Frame,” are often equipped with motion sensors. Thus, the digital artworks are also only displayed when someone is in the room. This naturally has a positive effect on the power consumption of the devices.

What content you want to display is entirely up to you. There are paid art subscriptions(for Samsung this service is CHF 49.99 annually) with an unlimited selection of artwork from well-known artists, or you can upload your own content and images via the app and have them displayed.

With Samsung The Frame, you can also choose the one you like best from a variety of frame colors, making it even easier to match your TV to your decor.

Hide TV Solution 2: Frame TV

Another and now very common variant to hide the TV at least a little offers the possibility of framing. By framing the TV on the wall immediately looks less like a TV, but more like a work of art.

The best-known example and pioneer among framed TVs is the Samsung The Frame mentioned above. This range of models is available in different sizes and can be easily adapted to your own taste. The interchangeable frames, which are available in various colors, can be easily replaced.

Samsung relies on 4K LED panels for the Frame model series.

However, if you don’t want to do without top displays with OLED technology, you can frame any smart TV according to your own taste and hide it behind a Magic Mirror Glass. The frame can be freely selected, and the Magic Mirror glass makes the switched-off TV look like a framed mirror. We at König Sound and Vision in Ascona offer such custom-made products, don’t hesitate to ask us, we will be happy to advise you.

Hide TV Solution 3: Cover TV

If the TV is not to be visible at all when it is not in use, the variant of covering it remains. For this purpose, a custom made for the specific TV model is put together entirely according to your wishes, the TV then disappears behind a piece of art printed on canvas (if desired, you can also print their own image). If you want to watch TV, the art piece simply disappears rolled up in the frame.

This very clever solution allows you to elegantly cover any TV with artwork at the touch of a button. Media Décor’s Moving Art Screens and Art Lifts are designed to fit seamlessly into your unique space. They use beautiful handmade frames and premium artwork from select galleries – or from your personal collection – and offer a design-friendly solution to make any TV disappear.

Hide TV solution 4: make it disappear in the furniture

Probably the most elegant, but also the most elaborate and expensive solution to completely hide their TV would be custom-made furniture. There are practically no limits to the imagination, as long as this is technically feasible.

For example, a piece of furniture could be built in such a way that the TV can be conveniently “turned away” and thus disappear inside the furniture.

Or you can make the TV disappear behind doors. Out of sight, out of mind. When the TV is not on, you simply close a revolving door in the wall or on the cabinet.

If you want to automate the whole thing, you can also make the TV disappear with a motorized solution. This, for example, by lowering in a sideboard or by retracting in the ceiling, depending on the space and needs.

With such sophisticated solution, cooperation with a professional is of the utmost importance. We will be happy to advise you and support you in the implementation of your dream project.

Hide TV Solution 5: Roll-up OLED screens

As the only manufacturer to date, LG produces a very exclusive and unique solution: the first and only rollable OLED TV.

With the LG Signature OLED R, the OLED screen is completely rolled up and stowed away in the accompanying design furniture when not in use. When the TV is turned on, the screen automatically rolls out in front of your eyes, delivering a stunning picture in the usual OLED quality.

The LG Signature OLED R is housed in a substantial (224 x 1592 x 266 mm, 64 kg), beautifully crafted, boxy chassis, with a comprehensive speaker array behind a lot of Kvadrat acoustic fabric. It sits on an open stand that is basically a big shelf for your cable TV box, game consoles, 4K Blu-ray player, and whatever else is underneath. On the back of this large box are all these inputs and outputs, as well as a cable for the power supply. Press and hold the “Power” button, also located on the back of the device, and the magic begins.

Inside the case is a 65-inch OLED screen rolled up, which rises out of the case when you press the power button – tantalizingly slowly and with some appropriate beeps. The screen itself is almost ridiculously thin. It is not more than 3 mm deep. And although the struts on either side that hold the screen’s numerous segments taut add a bit to the depth, this is the OLED TV we tech lovers had been dreaming of for decades.

The LG Signature OLED R is only produced to order at LG’s plant in South Korea and you have to expect a delivery time of a few weeks.
