The new Sonos products in 2022

In 2022, Sonos had introduced two new products. The compact and affordable entry-level soundbar, the Sonos Ray, and a more compact yet powerful subwoofer, the Sonos Sub Mini. So we were excited to see what Sonos would launch in 2023, and we didn’t have to wait long because the first new product launch is here!

The new Sonos products in 2023

After much rumor and conjecture, Sonos has now officially confirmed that it will launch two new speakers in March 2023: the Sonos Era 100 and Sonos Era 300. These new Sonos products 2023 are new additions to their wireless speaker lineup and mark a new “era” for the brand and are a big step up from their existing smart speakers.

Sonos Era 100

The Sonos Era 100 is an evolution of the award-winning Sonos One (Gen 2), which launched 10 years ago as the Sonos Play:1 and is currently in its third generation.

The Era 100 is a clear upgrade from the Sonos One, offering a new acoustic architecture, additional connectivity options, and a redesigned look.

Sonos Era 100 Price

The Era 100 is available for pre-order now and will retail for CHF 279. So it is clear that customers will have to dig a bit deeper into their pockets for the new Sonos Era 100. Is it worth investing these CHF 30? This question cannot be answered in a blanket manner and is highly dependent on individual applications. As a long-standing Sonos partner, we will be happy to provide you with expert support for your Sonos project.

Technical features

Sonos has improved the bass with a 25% larger woofer that apparently just fits inside the unit itself to maintain the compact form factor, so much deeper bass will be heard.

Also, the Era 100 is now a stereo speaker and not a mono speaker like the Sonos One (Gen 2).

It features two angled tweeters, which should provide a much wider soundstage, and special waveguides have been added to increase the dispersion of sound waves, providing a wider soundstage.

There are also three digital Class D amplifiers that support this sound performance. Sonos has also included a 47% faster co-neural processor, which should improve performance and connectivity and equip the speaker for future software upgrades.

As you would expect from Sonos, a lot has been invested in the development of the hardware, the software and the design, a strategy that has consistently produced excellent products in the past.

The Era 100, in our opinion, will be a great addition to a Sonos soundbar to deliver immersive surround sound with deeper bass and a wider soundstage.

Also new to the Sonos Era 100 is built-in Bluetooth 5.0, adding a Sonos Bluetooth speaker to the lineup without having to choose one of Sonos’ portable speakers.

The Era 100 and Era 300 also support WiFi 6, which should provide better reliability and uninterrupted playback.

Another important innovation is a line-in port, to which you can connect an external audio source such as a turntable or CD player. You must purchase a separate Sonos adapter to connect via the line-in port.

Sonos Era 100 Design

At first glance, the Era 100 isn’t too different from the Sonos One (Gen 2), but it’s gotten a little slimmer and a little taller. The top has also been refreshed, and the Era 100 features capacitive touch controls and a volume control that makes it easier to set the volume to a certain percentage.

Sonos has also incorporated sustainability, so important today, into the design by using recycled materials and fewer new plastics.

Another pleasing improvement has been achieved in terms of power consumption. The speaker’s power consumption is lower than its predecessor both in operation and in idle mode.

Sonos Era 300

A Sonos Dolby Atmos speaker and upward-firing Sonos rear speakers have been a popular request over the past few years, and Sonos has finally delivered. The Sonos Era 300 is Sonos’ brand new bookshelf speaker that supports Dolby Atmos, giving you the thrill of spatial audio in a single device.

Similar to the Era 100, the Era 300 also offers Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6 and a line-in connection via a Sonos adapter.

Sonos Era 300 Price

Sonos Era 300 is available in Switzerland for CHF 499. The Era 300 is the first of its kind and offers truly immersive, spatial stereo playback with support for surround sound and Dolby Atmos. With 6 drivers positioned to project sound from all directions, Sonos designed this speaker to give listeners a lifelike experience, just as the artist intended.

The audio trend of the hour: spatiality.

There are 4 tweeters for the highs and mids. A tweeter is front-facing and projects voices forward for a lifelike experience. An upward-firing tweeter adds height to spatial audio content and reflects sound from the ceiling for a more dynamic experience. There’s also a pair of side-firing midrange-tweeters for a wider soundstage, and two high-performance woofers that are also angled to the left and right for powerful bass and a further sense of spaciousness.

Era 300 is a stereo speaker, but you can connect two of them into a stereo pair for an even wider soundstage. You can also connect a pair of Era 300s to a Sonos soundbar as excellent rear speakers, but since the Era 300 is a multichannel rear speaker, it is only compatible with one of the Sonos Dolby Atmos soundbars, the Sonos Arc or the Sonos Beam (Gen 2).

Sonos Era 300 Design

In terms of design, the Era 300 maintains Sonos’ signature sleek aesthetic while integrating the speaker’s unique inner workings.
