Nura is a passionate group of music-loving scientists, engineers and creatives.

The Melbourne-based company was founded in 2016 with the groundbreaking idea of using otoacoustic emissions to create headphones that automatically learn and adapt to your unique hearing.

This idea led to the invention of the Nuraphone. In July 2016, Nura raised $1.8 million in a crowdfunding campaign for the Nuraphone – the largest amount in Australian Kickstarter history.

The Nuraphone is an innovative headphone concept that combines the advantages of in-ear and over-ear designs. An internal signal processor and measuring microphones also ensure that the sound is adapted to the user’s own hearing apparatus. And since the free G2 update, even noise cancellation can be counted among the many advantages of the Nuraphone.

The technology

Personalization of the Nuraphone works by monitoring the user’s otoacoustic emissions and then adjusting the sound based on the measurements so that the user can hear more detail when listening to music.

The Nuraphone features a patented design (Inova) that includes both in-ear monitors and over-ear cups, and also features Tesla valves that circulate air through the ear cups to keep the user’s ears cool during use.

The Nuraphone was born from the idea of developing a headphone that automatically measures the user’s hearing by monitoring otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). OAEs are tiny tones produced by the human ear as it processes sound, which are then used to create a personal sound profile.

Your hearing profile shows your sensitivity to different sound frequencies. The shape of your profile shows how you hear different sound frequencies.

Our hearing is unique. In low and high tones and in the left and right ear. It’s not a matter of hearing well or hearing poorly. Your Nura device selects two colors that are unique to you, so you can immediately recognize your unique hearing signature.

Create personal sound profile

Creating a profile takes just a few minutes and is done through the Nura app on your phone.

1. Unpack the device and remove all protective foils.
   
2. Download the Nura app on your smartphone.
   
3. Find a quiet place. Remove all headgear, earrings and glasses for optimal personalization.
   
4. Open the app, register and complete the personalization process. A voice in the headphones will easily guide you through the whole process, all they have to do is listen and wait. It is important that you do not move or talk during the process. Even simple things like bending the jaw or yawning can easily change the created profile. Then a hearing profile is created that is unique to you!
   
5. Immerse yourself in the personalized listening experience!

Do I always need the app on all devices afterwards to use the Nura headphones?

No, once you have created your personal hearing profile, it is stored on the Nura device itself. Now you can connect your Nura device to any other device via Bluetooth (or wired if you use Nuraphone) and enjoy music with personalized sound.

This means you can connect to your phone, tablet, TV, smartwatch – anything!

You only need to reconnect to the app to create a new hearing profile or to make changes to the Touch Button functions.
